The Signalman Brighton

Good cask and keg options and most pub boxes are ticked

The Signalman Brighton, unmissiable if dismounting Southwards from London Road Station, is spacious and warm with the charm of decorative touches and a buzzy atmosphere.

The Laine ownership is apparent, with many of its range of beers on the taps and pumps, however there are a good rotating selection of local craft beers as well.

The pub is very dog friendly and shows live sport on 2 TVs whenever you might want to watch it, the atmosphere here for big matches is unrivalled locally.

The garden has 2 wings to it, the most used one is a colourful astro-turfed area with plenty of picnic tables plus heated and sheltered booths along one wall, it’s a total suntrap.

Across the 2 large rooms, paintings, pictures and railway-related memorabilia decorate the walls, and a floor-to-ceiling library of books and board games is available for perusal.

It’s very easygoing and unpretentious as a community pub should be, and there are ample tables that can accommodate plenty of big groups for dining or meet-ups.

The kitchen has been a questionable area for the pub. Post-Covid it hasn’t been very consistent, making decisions unreliable. The burgers have been fairly good generally, but given the premium pricing of things like loaded fries, the quality hasn’t been there, and much better pub kitchens operate locally in the same price bracket.
